One day your skin is clear, and seemingly the next, freckles, age spots, and other discolorations are visible. The reason for this is that sun damage, brown discolorations, and the blood vessel congestion responsible for red areas, initially lie just below the surface. These abnormalities become visible over time. We now have the technology to evaluate these sub-surface features and we can even correct them before they become visible.

• The number and location of surface spots.
• The number and location of UV spots. These spots occur where melanin has accumulated just below the skin surface as a result of sun damage. These spots will eventually appear on the surface if left untreated.
• The number and location of brown spots. These lesions include hyperpigmentation, freckles, age spots, and melasma, also known as the “mask of pregnancy”. They may be visible to the naked eye, or deeper within the skin producing an uneven tone, or coloration, in the skin.
• The extent and location of red areas. These are areas of blood vessel congestion which occur with conditions like rosacea, acne inflammation, and spider veins.
• An analysis of wrinkles.
• An analysis of skin texture, or smoothness.
• An analysis of pore size.
• An analysis of porphyrins. These are bacterial excretions which can clog pores and lead to acne. Porphyrins provide an indirect measure of sebaceous, or oily, skin areas.

VISIA® analysis also provides information on how your skin condition compares to other people of the same age and gender.

Another fantastic benefit of the VISIA® system is that it allows you to objectively compare pre and post treatment results. We could always see the improvement in the appearance of the surface skin with treatments. Now, we can see the improvement in the subsurface abnormalities as well.
