Wisconsin Botox Injections for Wrinkles |

Botox® - Express YourselfBotox® Cosmetic is a purified protein which is injected to temporarily improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the face and neck. It can also be used to lift heavy or sagging eyebrows, decrease excessive sweating in the underarms or palms, and to treat chronic headaches. Botox® alone can diminish or even eliminate frown lines between the eyes, forehead creases, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and lines around the mouth or across the neck resulting in a smoother and very natural look. How does Botox® work?As we age, lines, creases, wrinkles, and folds begin to appear and deepen because of two main factors. 1) Passive wrinkling occurs via changes in the skin support system and the effects of gravity. Skin elastin (springy fibers) production decreases in our early twenties, normal facial fat pads begin to shrink and fall out of position, and the collagen structure decreases and weakens. These factors allow gravity to cause our skin to sag and wrinkles, lines, folds and jowls form. Dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, and Juvederm™ are used to correct these changes. 2) Hyperdynamic wrinkling occurs via repetitive muscle contractions. The muscles of the face are unique in that they insert directly into the skin, thus contraction of these muscles pulls on the skin structure and cause the skin to crease. For example, when we frown or concentrate hard, the corrugator muscles along the eyebrows pull the skin inwards creating vertical creases above the nose. Over time repetitive muscle contractions cause a line, crease, or wrinkle to persist in the skin even when the muscle is at rest. Botox® is injected into these muscles to temporarily lessen or eliminate this pull on the skin and allow the skin to relax back to a line-free or wrinkle-free state. A simple self-test you can perform to determine the results obtainable with Botox® is to gently stretch the skin of the wrinkled area. If the lines disappear, then it’s likely that treating them with Botox® alone will give the same result. For deeper wrinkles a combination of a dermal filler and Botox® will give an optimal correction. Similarly, Botox® can be utilized to prolong the results achieved with dermal fillers for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles. The great advantage of Botox® is that it allows us to treat a cause of line and wrinkle formation rather than just treating the symptoms. Will Botox® cause my face to look stiff? We have all heard people referred to as “over-botoxed” and that is exactly the case. The results of Botox® are dose dependent. Over treating with Botox® can result in a ‘plastic’ look; a face with minimal expression or animation. When Botox® is used appropriately that will not occur. Think of how necessary it is for actors and actresses to utilize their facial muscles as part of their craft. You know many of them have Botox® treatments to help maintain a youthful look. Both of these goals can be met. In reality, Botox® actually allows us to better express ourselves.
People naturally assume the “look” on our face reflects our
emotional state. When you remove the non-verbal miscues, such as a constant
look of frustration conveyed by a glabellar frown line, you will hear
that you look well-rested, relaxed, and happier! When will I see the results of Botox® and how long will it last?Typically the effects of Botox® will be noticeable within 3 days, reach full effect in 7-10 days, and last ~4-6 months. It is more effective to re-treat the areas before the Botox® has completely worn off. This helps to prevent the lines from re-forming. Over time, the dose of Botox® needed to maintain your results may decrease. How are Botox® injections done? The injections are done with a very small needle. Most people receive Botox® injections with no anesthetic, however, we can certainly numb the skin with a topical (cream) anesthetic if you so chose. This procedure is typically quick, involves minimal discomfort, and you can resume normal activities immediately following the injections. Because Botox® is administered via an injection there is a small risk of mild redness or bruising at the injection site. You should not receive Botox® if you are pregnant, breast feeding, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from certain neuromuscular diseases. For further information on Botox®, Restylane®,
