Facial Chemical Peel at Embody Medical Spa |
||||||||||
Medical Grade Chemical PeelsChemical peel treatments are employed for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. They correct skin damage and induce new collagen formation. The chemical peels performed at EMBODY Medical Spa are not the same as the peels that you can have done at a non-medical facility. They are higher grade, stronger peels to give you the results you’re looking for. Medical grade chemicals are applied to the damaged skin to cause it to peel off. The new skin beneath is allowed to surface, revealing a smoother, brighter, younger looking you. What are Chemical Peels used to treat?Chemical peels can be performed on the face, neck, hands, décolletage, back, arms, or legs. This procedure reduces the fine lines and wrinkles which are associated with aging, improves the appearance of mild scarring, and corrects the photodamage caused by sun exposure, such as freckles and age spots. They are also used in the treatment of acne and Rosacea. Medical grade chemical peels also reduce actinic keratoses, which have been shown to be pre-cancerous skin lesions, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or discolorations, and melasma. Melasma is a “mask” of dark pigmentation on the face resulting from the hormonal changes which occur during pregnancy, birth control pill use, or menopause. Chemical peels stimulate new collagen formation and produce long-term
benefits. They improve skin texture, tone, and reflectivity. Rough skin
is softened, discolorations are evened out, and your new skin has the
glow of youth. What types of Chemical Peels are available?The result obtained from a chemical peel is dependent on the depth of penetration into the skin. Stronger chemicals penetrate more deeply, remove more damaged skin, and achieve a greater level of renewal. Over the counter chemical peel kits and non-medical grade chemical peels remove only the most superficial skin, which provides a “freshened” look. At EMBODY Medical Spa, we perform medical grade chemical peels. You will be in the care of Dr. Mayo and prescription chemicals will be utilized to obtain the results you desire. During your consultation we will review your health history, discuss your desired outcome, and address the expected recovery time. Based on that information, Dr. Mayo will be able to determine the optimal treatment program to meet your specific needs. Who can receive a Chemical Peel?Medical grade chemical peels can be performed on clients of any age or skin type. At Embody Medical Spa, we will provide you with the information you need to help you determine which treatment plan will give you the optimal results in a safe manner, and fit into your lifestyle. You should not have a chemical peel if you are pregnant or nursing, have been on Accutane® in the past 6 months, or have active inflammation at the site. Some types of peels cannot be used for people with a history of an allergy to aspirin. How many treatments will I need?The number of treatments needed to obtain the desired results depends on the depth of the peel. “Lighter” peels typically require a series of 3-6 peels done at approximately one month intervals. The advantage of this program is the minimal downtime and minimal complication risk in all skin types. “Deeper” peels produce very noticeable results from just one treatment. Furthermore, your skin will continue to improve over the following six months. However, these peels do have a 7-10 day recovery period. How do I prepare for a Chemical Peel?To achieve an even peel and maximal results, a pre-peel skin treatment program is necessary. A good pretreatment skin program is the foundation of a great result. To be effective, this program must be tailored to your Fitzpatrick skin type classification, skin thickness, sebaceous quality, and the conditions being treated. Dependent on these factors, the skin preparation program may need to be anywhere from 2-6 weeks in duration. The appropriate pre-peel skin preparation program not only improves the results achieved, but also shortens the healing time after a chemical peel. It is an essential component of an optimal outcome. If you have a history of cold sores at the treatment site, we may prescribe a course of an anti-viral medication. What happens after a Chemical Peel?The recovery course depends on the depth of the peel. With “lighter” depth medical grade chemical peels, you should expect reddened and flaking skin for 1-3 days following the procedure. With “deeper” peels, the recovery period is usually 7-10 days. Many people will feel “unpresentable” during that time, but the results obtained are much more dramatic. At EMBODY Medical Spa, we will give you instructions on how to care for your skin during the recovery period. We will also provide you with the information necessary to continue to take the best care of your renewed skin. It is very important that you avoid excessive sun exposure, and utilize a high quality sunblock on a daily basis to protect your new skin and maintain the results obtained. Medical grade chemical peels can un-do years of damage and produce dramatic improvement in your skin. However, it is only part of the treatment. Keep your renewed youthful look with a good skin care and skin protection program. For further information on Medical Grade Chemical Peels
