Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Wisconsin

Fractional laser skin resurfacing

Fractional Non-Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing

Fractional non-ablative lasers are a great advancement in skin resurfacing. With this new technology, we can achieve incredible long-term improvement in skin appearance. Within 3-4 treatments over ~2 months you can look much younger, healthier, and glow with vibrancy.

Fractional skin resurfacing will smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, tone, and discolorations, as well as provide mild skin tightening.

This technology also allows us to successfully treat acne scarring and the “mask” of discoloration, known as melasma, that many women get with pregnancy, birth control pill use, and menopause.

In the past, ablative skin resurfacing was used to remove the outer layers of the skin. This painful procedure required anesthesia. It also had a significant recovery time during which the raw, red skin made one “unpresentable” for ~10 days. Thus, there was an evolution to non-ablative laser treatments which leave the skin surface intact. However, without fractional technology, a prolonged series of treatments are needed to obtain results. Fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing provides the latest technological leap forward. With our next generation fractional laser you will achieve the results of ablative skin resurfacing without the raw, red skin, without the pain, and without the down time.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?

Our Palomar Lux1540 Fractional laser delivers columns, or microbeams, of energy which pass through the outer layer of the skin to treat below the surface. The columns of thermal energy eliminate damaged tissue and old pigmented cells. This triggers a natural healing response from the tissue surrounding the microbeams. Collagen formation is stimulated and healthy, new, tighter tissue replaces the skin’s imperfections.

The microbeams allow us to treat ~25% of the skin in one session. Thus, the micro-columns are not visible, and the surrounding tissue provides the quick healing response and quick recovery.

All skin types can be treated with our Lux1540 Fractional Non-Ablative laser.

How many fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing treatments are needed?

On average, the desired results will be achieved within 3-4 treatment sessions spaced at 2-4 week intervals. The skin appearance quickly and progressively improves, producing long-term results. Over the course of 2-3 months, new collagen forms and creates healthier, younger skin.

Are fractional laser skin resurfacing treatments painful?

No, most people find the treatments to be quite comfortable and topical anesthesia is not needed. Our laser has a unique sapphire tip which cools the skin before, during, and after each light pulse. Most people describe the treatment as a mild “snapping” sensation.

What should I expect after a laser skin resurfacing treatment?

Generally, you can return to your normal activities without any recovery time. Your skin may feel warm and appear slightly swollen or reddened in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn. This will typically fade within a few hours, though the skin may have a pinkish tone for several days.

Make-up can be applied immediately following your treatment. We recommend a high-quality, non-irritating mineral make-up such as Colorescience which can speed the healing process.

What precautions should I be aware of with a laser skin resurfacing treatment?

It is important to protect the treated skin with a sunblock following any laser procedure. Our UV Natural sunblock has 24% zinc which provides maximal protection and aids in skin healing. Colorescience has a high quality sunblock powder, which can simply be brushed on over make-up.

If you have a history of cold sore outbreaks within the treatment area, a prophylactic dose of an antiviral medication may be prescribed.

Accutane® (oral isotretinoin) should not be taken within 6 months of a laser treatment.

If you are on a photosensitizing medication we recommend that you stop in to EMBODY Medical Spa at least 24 hours before your first treatment for a quick “test spot”.

If you use exfoliating products like topical tretinoin on the area to be treated, the skin may be more sensitive and prone to flaking. It is best to discontinue these products ~2 weeks prior to your treatment.
