Wisconsin Mesotherapy/Lipodissolve Fat Reduction |
||||||||||
Lipodissolve™and Mesotherapy – NonSurgical Body Contouring (NSBT)Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy employ the injection of medications into the subcutaneous (or fatty) layer of the skin. These procedures are utilized for localized fat reduction in areas such as the flank (“love-handles”), lateral chest wall (“bra-bulges”), outer thighs (“saddle-bags”), inner thighs (“chaffing”), and lower abdomen (“pot-belly”). Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy can also be used to treat cellulite, male gynecomastia (breast enlargement), and lipomas (fatty growths on the skin surface). NonSurgical Body Contouring targets stubborn fat pockets by delivering fat dissolving medications past the outer protective skin and right into the problematic area. The treatments are for spot reduction of fat. They are not utilized for the treatment of obesity or overall weight loss. How do Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy treat cellulite?In the lower layer of the skin, fat cells are grouped into clusters, or lobules. The lobules are separated by connective tissue septae. There are two main reasons why some women are more prone to cellulite formation: 1) their connective tissue septae tend to run vertically (from the skin to the muscle) rather than diagonally, and 2) during menstruation there is an increase in levels of collagenase (an enzyme which breaks down collagen and can thus weaken the skin structure). Fat lobules can bulge out into the weakened skin structure while the adjacent connective tissue keeps the skin tethered. This creates the dimpling seen on the skin surface which is commonly referred to as cellulite. Poor blood flow in these areas, as well as poor lymphatic drainage, are also postulated to be contributing factors. Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy target cellulite in three ways. The medications dissolve and dispel the trapped fat, improve impaired circulation, and loosen the tethering bands. The skin also typically tightens in the injected area. This creates a smother skin surface. What is the difference between Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy?Mesotherapy is a broad term which applies to instilling various medications
and/or homeopathics at various levels of the skin to obtain a particular
result. For example, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and minerals can be delivered
right into the superficial skin to “freshen” one’s appearance
( mesoglow). Mesotherapy is also used to treat areas of fat deposition,
hair loss, and for some types of chronic pain. What are the medications that are injected?Depending on the specific area being treated, any or all of the following medications may be used: Phosphatidylcholine/sodium deoxycholate, L-Carnitine, Collagenase, Hyaluronidase, and Lidocaine. How are Lipodissolve™ and Mesotherapy administered?Dr. Mayo will inject the medications into the problematic area using a very small/fine needle. The medication is placed into the fat layer in a grid-like pattern. This procedure can be preformed without any anesthesia. However, at EMBODY Medical Spa you will be offered the option of a topical (cream) anesthetic on the skin surface over the injected area. How many treatments are needed? The number of treatments needed varies by body area, size of the targeted
area, amount of fat deposition, and from person to person. The desired
results are typically obtained in 3-6 treatments which are administered
2-4 weeks apart. After the injections the area is commonly itchy, slightly reddened, and somewhat swollen for 24-48 hours. There is also a risk of bruising and some tenderness in the area which may last several days. Lipodissolve™ / Mesotherapy are not administered during pregnancy or nursing, to persons with an allergy to soy products, in areas previously treated for cancer, or in persons with autoimmune disorders.
