Microdermabrasion for Healthier Looking Skin

Microdermabrasion treatments are a safe and effective way to regain and maintain beautiful skin.

Microdermabrasion treatments do not require any type of anesthesia. There is no post-procedure downtime, so you can resume your normal activities immediately following a treatment.

What is Microdermabrasion used for?

Microdermabrasion can reduce or correct:
  • Skin pigmentations, such as freckles and age spots
  • Skin discolorations resulting from a post-inflammatory process such as acne, or the “pregnancy mask” of melasma
  • Skin lesions resulting from solar damage such as mild actinic and seborrheic keratoses
  • Mild scaring
  • Rough textured skin/overall skin texture
    acne

Furthermore, the deep exfoliation achieved with a microdermabrasion treatment will:

  • Remove the dull surface cells to reveal healthier, smoother, and brighter skin stimulate on-going skin renewal
  • Increase the ability of skin care products to penetrate and treat your skin
  • Greatly augment your home skin care maintenance
  • Increase the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy treatments

How does Microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion produces results by gently resurfacing the skin. It is a proven method for improving skin appearance and the integrity of the underlying layers of skin.

The cells of the surface layer of the skin, the epidermis, typically mature, die, and slough off over ~ a 30 day period. Many factors can slow this process, including sun damage, chemicals, pollutants, and aging. The skin surface becomes thickened, dulled, and sallow in appearance. Microdermabrasion lightly abrades and vacuums the skin surface, which immediately removes this dulled, weathered layer, as well as pore-clogging debris. It also stimulates the skin cell cycle, which increases exfoliation. This results in healthier, brighter, smoother looking skin.

At EMBODY Medical Spa we utilize the most advanced technology microdermabrasion has to offer, a unit with a diamond-encrusted tip. The results achieved with this next generation treatment method have been shown to be equal to the results obtained with crystal-based machines, but without the potential hazards associated with aluminum crystal exposure. Furthermore, this technology allows us to safely treat the skin right around the eyes, mouth, and nose.

What areas of the body can be treated with Microdermabrasion?

The benefits of microdermabrasion apply to all areas of the body. Areas with more fragile skin, such as the neck and décolletage, which may not tolerate other treatment methods, are typically amenable to improvement with microdermabrasion.

Who can have microdermabrasion treatments?

Microdermabrasion is non-invasive and has an excellent safety record in people of all skin types and colors.

However, microdermabrasion is not appropriate for people with the following conditions:

  • Rosacea
  • Extensive telangiectasias, which are dilated superficial capillary vessels
  • Warts, rashes, inflamed acne, or an active skin infection in the treatment area
  • Recent sunburn or windburn
  • Accutane usage within the past year
  • Auto-immune disorders or poorly controlled diabetes

It is best to avoid using exfoliating products and procedures, such as retinols, masques, scrubs, and loofahs, on the treatment area for ~ 1 week prior to your procedure.

How many microdermabrasion treatments are needed?

Even one microdermabrasion treatment is beneficial. Your skin will be cleaner, feel smoother, and you will look refreshed. Your appearance will not be dramatically altered from one microdermabrasion. However, quite remarkable results can be obtained with a series of treatments. The actual number of treatments needed depends on the severity of the condition being treated as well as the extent of improvement that you desire.

Intermittent microdermabrasion treatments are an excellent way to maintain the results obtained from any skin rejuvenation treatments, or to augment any skin care program.

How will I feel after a microdermabrasion treatment?

Your skin may feel slightly warm or tingly, or may appear flushed for a short time after a treatment. However, there is no post-procedure recovery time or downtime. Microdermabrasion is a very safe, comfortable, and fairly quick procedure.

We strongly recommend the use of a high quality sunblock lotion or brush-on powder, such as those we carry from Colorescience, Obagi, SkinMedica, or UV Natural, following a microdermabrasion treatment.
